DCU Abú! Annual Alumni All Ireland Final Brunch
It was fantastic to welcome back over 170 alumni and their guests to the DCU St Patrick's Campus on Sunday 1st September to celebrate the Annual Alumni All Ireland Final Brunch. DCU had strong representation on the day, with a total of 17 students and graduates on the Dublin team (players and management). We were delighted to celebrate an all-alumni panel of speakers and entertainers, joined by Darragh Maloney from RTE and to hear the opinions of many guests from the audience!
A sea of blue and green and gold washed over the DCU St. Patrick’s Campus on Sunday, 1st of September, and differences were put aside between Dublin and Kerry fans for an afternoon of celebrations for the All-Ireland Final Annual Alumni Brunch.
With music, entertainment, food and a panel discussion, a fantastic pre-match hype for DCU Alumni, family and friends before the throw-in closeby in Croke Park.
Our All-Ireland Final panel, MCed by RTE Radio 1 Reporter, Barry Lenihan, consisted of RTE Sports Presenter, Darragh Maloney, Irish Times Journalist, Eamon Donoghue, Dublin Senior Ladies Footballer, Sinead Finnegan, and Roscommon Senior Footballer, Cathal Cregg.
Predictions for the play and the result were made by our panel. Two Dublin wins anticipated by our panel - by ten points from Sinead Finnegan, and by seven or eight points by Cathal Cregg, who both saw it hard to look past the boys in blue. Eamon Donoghue was hopeful for the green and gold, suggesting that if Kerry could stop the Dublin blitz, they would have a chance. However, it was the brave prediction of Darragh Maloney that shocked the crowd, as he thought a draw between the sides was on the cards. Everyone laughed when he suggested such obscurity, but looking back now, he knew exactly what he was talking about!
Tierney Talks Impersonator, Aidan Tierney, had the crowd in stitches with his uncanny impressions of some household GAA names, such as Joe Brolly, Brian Cody, Davy Fitzgerald and Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh, who all inputted to how they thought the day would play out.
Congratulations were in store for the winner of our All-Ireland Final Brunch Ticket competition, Olivia Callan - a Dublin superfan, who took her daughter with her to watch the match in Croke Park.
Once again, the Annual Brunch was a fantastic occasion again this year. We would like to thank everyone for coming and we hope to see you again next year for the next All-Ireland Final Brunch!
