ABC Advisory Board member Niamh Sweeney appointed as Data Protection Commissioner

We are pleased to share that ABC Advisory Board member Niamh Sweeney has been appointed by the Government as the third Data Protection Commissioner. The appointment was announced on 17 September 2025 and will take effect on 13 October 2025 for a five-year term.

Niamh will join Commissioners Des Hogan and Dale Sunderland, completing the three-member Commission at the Data Protection Commission. She brings extensive leadership experience across the technology and policy sectors to her new role.
