Biographical Details

Bronagh joined the DCU Institute of Education in January 2017. She is an early years researcher who completed both her undergraduate degree (BSc in Physical Education with Biology) and PhD at Dublin City University, Ireland in the School of Health and Human Performance. Bronagh’s PhD involved the development, implementation and evaluation of the randomised controlled-trial of the Youth-Physical Activity Towards Health intervention, the validation of an adolescent skills assessment tool and physical self-confidence scale. During her PhD Bronagh was also involved in other physical activity research projects such as Sport for Life and the PANAMA project. Bronagh worked in Edge Hill University in the UK from 2015-2017 as a lecturer in Physical Education. During this time she was involved in a primary school based intervention called “The Born to Move” initiative funded by Les Mills and also a secondary school based customised intervention called “The Active Schools Skelmersdale (AS:SK)”. Bronagh completed the PG Certificate in Higher Education Teaching in 2017. Bronagh is currently PhD supervisor of John Murphy in the School of Arts Education and Movement. This study looks at examining the effects a school based physical activity and nutrition education intervention can have on adolescent females physical and mental well-being. Bronagh is passionate about fundamental movement skill development, school based interventions and physical activity promotion. Outside of university Bronagh's interests are gaelic football, outdoors, coaching and travel.
