This study explores how South Africa's green finance taxonomy aligns with or diverges from the EU taxonomy, particularly in attracting sustainable investment. It assesses the role of EU investors and development banks in shaping South Africa's green ambition and reveals how trade relations and taxonomy implementation affect bond investments and lending patterns. The findings underscore the complex dynamics between local ambitions and global standards.
