Academic biography

Dr. Eric Tchouamou Njoya is an Assistant Professor in Aviation Management at DCU.

Dr. Njoya previously served as Head of Economics and Transportation at Bauhaus Luftfahrt e.V., a leading aviation think tank based in Munich, Germany (October 2024 to November 2025), where he led high-impact research on the economic, social, and environmental implications of air transport policies. In this role, he collaborated with international stakeholders and contributed to the development of sustainable aviation strategies and future mobility solutions. He also served as Project Manager for a SESAR JU European Union multimodality project, focusing on innovative transport integration and multimodal transport systems.

Prior to this, he held several academic positions at the University of Huddersfield, United Kingdom: Lecturer (May 2015 to August 2016), Senior Lecturer (September 2016 to July 2022), and Reader (Associate Professor) in Aviation and Air Transport Management (August 2022 to August 2024). During this period, he also held several senior leadership roles, including Course Leader for Logistics and Air Transport Management, Course Leader for the MBA in Global Logistics, Acting Director of the Master of Public Administration, Deputy Director of the Future Mobility Research Centre, and Cluster Director of the Behavioural Research Centre. He supervised multiple PhD candidates, contributed significantly to curriculum development, and played a key role in academic mentoring and programme accreditation.

He also previously worked as a Research Assistant and Lecturer at Bremen University of Applied Sciences, Germany (January 2010 to December 2014), and has served as a Visiting Professor at Tomas Bata University in Zlín, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Dr. Njoya holds a PhD in Transport Economics from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and a Master’s degree in International Economics and Global Supply Chains from Bremen University of Applied Sciences. With over 20 years of teaching experience across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels, he has received recognition for teaching excellence and is a Fellow of Advance HE.

His research has been published in leading international journals such as Transportation Research Part A, Journal of Air Transport Management, Journal of Travel Research, Journal of Sustainable Tourism, Journal of Transport Geography, and Tourism Management. In addition to his academic work, he has secured competitive research grants and provided consultancy services to various institutions, supporting air service development strategies, aviation policy, and regional development initiatives across international and European contexts.
