AERA 2026 - Illuminating Instruction and Assessment to Support Student Success in Higher Education: International Perspectives
Earlier in April at the American Educational Research Association (AERA) 2026 annual meeting in Los Angeles, CARPE director Prof. Ernesto Panadero co-chaired the symposium "Illuminating Instruction and Assessment to Support Student Success in Higher Education: International Perspectives" alongside Dustin Van Orman, with Heidi Andrade as discussant.
The symposium explored five studies from the US, Canada, the Philippines, and Spain examining how instruction and assessment can better support student learning in higher education:
- Dustin Van Orman, Daniel Hanley, Josie Melton, Greta Moses, Sophie Westermann, Anna Manry, Alexis Marquez, Morgan Stucky & Sophie Baughn: students' experiences of evidence-based instruction across three US institutions
- Elli Theobald & Shangmou Xu: meta-analysis on active learning efficacy by type and intensity
- Christopher DeLuca & Katrina Carbone: challenges and opportunities in Canadian HE assessment
- Norman Mendoza & Zi Yan: self-assessment, effort, and feedback literacy in the Philippines
- Ernesto Panadero, Javier Fernández-Ruiz, Juan Fraile, Alaitz Amezua & Carlos Rodríguez-Hernández: longitudinal shifts in Spanish university assessment practices
