Catherine Faherty Awarded PhD Scholarship

Dublin City University Business School student, Catherine Faherty, has been awarded the prestigious Irish Research Council Enterprise Partnership Scheme Scholarship. The Enterprise Partnership Scheme is an initiative whereby the Irish Research Council, in partnership with private enterprises and public bodies, awards co-funded postgraduate scholarships and postdoctoral fellowships to the most promising researchers in Ireland.

Catherine has been awarded one of 50 awards announced by Minister for Research and Innovation, Seán Sherlock TD, at a ceremony in Dublin Wednesday last. She will undertake a PhD in the area of family business and entrepreneurship in Dublin City University, co-funded by the Irish Research Council and the DCU Ryan Academy, a not-for-profit joint venture between Dublin City University and the family of the late Tony Ryan, founder of Ryanair.

Announcing the awards yesterday, the Minister commented: “This scheme provides researchers with the opportunity to gain valuable first-hand experience in a commercial and organisational research environment, while also providing enterprise with access to an exceptional pool of high-calibre researchers.”

A total of €5.7 million in research funding has been made available to support the 50 enterprise-academia research partnerships, marking the 10th year of the Enterprise Partnership Scheme and the engagement of 250 companies. The awards are granted to students and fellows on the basis of excellence, engaging enterprise not just in collaborative research activity, but also in the skills development of future higher education graduates.
