New Fulbright Ambassador at DCU

The Fulbright Commission is delighted to announce that Dr Donal Fitzpatrick, Assistant Professor in the School of Computing, is the new Fulbright Alumni Ambassador for DCU.

The Fulbright Commission in Ireland annually awards grants for Irish citizens to study, research, or teach in the U.S. and for Americans to do the same in Ireland. The aim of the Ambassador programme is to have a Fulbright contact on campus so that students, researchers & lecturers can access guidance on how to approach their Fulbright applications and easily engage with the Fulbright network.

Dr Fitzpatrick was a Fulbright Awardee to Florida State University in 2000, while there he investigated how maps and other diagrammatic data could be made accessible for blind people. His current research focuses on Human Computer Interaction, with particular emphasis on the development of software, which is accessible for users with, and without, disabilities. He is a former recipient of the Chancellor's Medal, which is DCU's highest award for outstanding contribution to the scholarly and extracurricular life of the university.

Dr Fitzpatrick takes up the Fulbright Ambassador mantle at DCU from Dr Karen Devine, who has served in this role for the last two years and contributed greatly to enhanced engagement on campus.

The 2020-2021 Fulbright Irish Award Application Period opens on 28th August 2019. Staff, researchers and students can find out more about the Fulbright Awards at the DCU Roadshow event at 2pm on the 3rd April in the Seminar Room at the Invent Building, DCU, all welcome.
