Why did you choose this particular course?

As someone who had an interest and desire to study and work within the media landscape, this course was ideal for me. It allowed me to use my creativity in addition to academic learning and research within the area. I chose this course for its reputation as a leading course in Communication and Media Studies in Ireland. It is one of the longest running and most esteemed in the country, with notable alumni, strong practical facilities in addition to highly regarded lecturers and modules.

What aspects of this programme were most useful or valuable to you?

This programme has a great balance of practical and theoretical modules. While I am someone who enjoys academics and theoretical learning and research, I am also inherently creative, and being able to showcase these skills and build on them in a practical industry way was hugely beneficial. The amalgamation of both practical knowledge and academic skills allows me to have a greater overall skill set for the industry. For example, modules such as video production/photography allowed me to understand adobe softwares and build portfolios that can assist me in careers such as digital marketing etc., pairing that with theoretical modules such as 'Applying Communication Theory' allows me to understand how these media productions can have stronger effects on audiences.

What were your highlights of the programme?

What I will probably remember most are the classes and our lecturers. Our lecturers were always extremely considerate, understanding and kind. They made the learning enjoyable and were always available to assist, something I know not every course might have. I enjoyed my time studying in the School of Communications so much I came back to pursue my Masters in the MSc of Public Relations and Strategic Communication.

Did the programme create opportunities for you?

Our class had the opportunity to attend Late Late show live screenings in RTE studio, as well as listen to a discussion panel of successful individuals within RTE working within the industry. This was hugely beneficial as we  got to see where the degree would take us.
