Why did you choose this particular course?

Studying for the BA in Humanities at DCU has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. I chose this programme because of its rich interdisciplinary nature — the opportunity to explore both literature and philosophy within a single degree was exactly what I was looking for. Throughout the course, I found myself equally drawn to both disciplines, and thanks to the programme’s flexibility, I was able to pursue two dissertations in my final year — one in each field.

What aspects of this programme were most useful or valuable to you?

The programme was exceptionally well structured — from the wide range of subject choices to the academic support and clear communication, everything was designed to help students thrive. The tutors were incredibly knowledgeable and generous with their time, and I am grateful to each one for the inspiration and guidance they provided.

What were your highlights of the programme?

I was fortunate to connect with a group of fellow students from the first year — affectionately named ‘The Rabbit Hole’ — who became not only lifelong friends, but also true partners in exchanging ideas, navigating challenges, and nurturing a genuine joy for learning.

As a non-native English speaker, I sometimes faced challenges, especially with pronunciation. I’ll never forget the moment when my daughters Valeria and Viola appeared behind the camera during a presentation, whispering how to pronounce “poem” correctly. Together with my husband Marco, they were always cheering me on and celebrating every success. Their support made this journey deeply personal and memorable.

One of the unexpected joys of the course was discovering Joyce’s Ulysses, a book I was initially intimidated by but grew to love. The programme allowed me to approach the novel through both philosophical and literary lenses.

Did the programme create opportunities for you?

This programme didn’t just broaden my academic horizons — it gave me new confidence, lasting friendships, and unforgettable memories. Being named to the Dean’s Honours List is a recognition I’ll always cherish.
