'I had the opportunity to go on an Erasmus exchange in my third year as part of this programme - and it made such an impact on me going into my final year at DCU.'
Why did you choose this particular course?
I chose to study this course because I have always had a huge love for languages and writing, and also an aspiration to study Public Relations. I thought that Media Studies would be a good start, and paired with Spanish seemed like the perfect combination for me.
What aspects of this programme were most useful or valuable to you?
The Public Relations module - it was very practical for real life scenarios and provided very useful knowledge to apply in the work field. Madeline Boughton made the module particularly enjoyable and engaging. My Erasmus exchange - this is a very valuable experience for anyone to have the opportunity to partake in. Final Year Research project - this is a very useful module for gaining valuable research skills, and Alicia Castillo Villanueva was a brilliant mentor to have.
What were your highlights of the programme?
I thoroughly enjoyed the Public Relations module as part of final year. In particular, Madeline Boughton was a fantastic lecturer to have. She really inspired and encouraged me to adopt a strong work ethic. I was also so grateful to have the opportunity to go on an Erasmus exchange in my third year as part of this programme. I think this is a very valuable part of being a language student, and it led me to be more knowledgeable and cultured going into my final year at DCU. In final year, I also thoroughly enjoyed writing my extended essay as part of my Research Project module. This was a very valuable part of my programme which taught me useful research skills that I now know how to apply to the research necessary for the work I will have to carry out in my Masters. I greatly appreciated the creative freedom that was given to us from my lecturer, Alicia Castillo Villanueva. I was able to write about a topic that I was really interested in and it made the experience super enjoyable. I also can’t fail to mention the friends that I met during the duration of this programme who made every single day a highlight for me. I am so grateful that DCU introduced me to some of the greatest people that I now have in my life and who encouraged and continue to encourage me throughout every step of life.
Did the programme create opportunities for you?
If it wasn't for this programme, I wouldn't have learnt about the MSc in Public Relations and Strategic Communications which I am currently studying now in DCU. It was thanks to Madeline Boughton, and the guest speakers who she had attended our class one day who were alumni of the Masters, which persuaded me to take part and continue my studies further at DCU. I never in a million years thought I would be lucky enough to not only complete a Bachelor's degree, but to also be participating in a Master's degree too. I feel beyond lucky and privileged to be in this position, and I can't wait to discover the opportunities that lie ahead for me thanks to DCU.
