The Glass Room - Misinformation Session

A new eye catching, self-learning exhibition has been installed outside the Stokes Building in Dublin City University as part of ADAPT’s #DiscussAI programme of public eventsThe Glass Room: Misinformation Edition immerses the public in data and privacy, and encourages visitors to question their understanding and comfort around this topic.

What happens when we increasingly rely on social media and the web for nearly all our information? What information do we see, and what do we miss? How do we know if a picture or a tweet is genuine or truthful? And what can we do if we can’t be sure?

ADAPT, the Science Foundation Ireland research centre for data-driven AI technology is delighted to partner with Tactical Tech on this exciting European project. The installation consists of posters, interactive apps and animations which can be hosted anywhere in the world, both in public and private spaces. It is available in more than fifteen languages and has been hosted in 19 countries in Europe alone since its launch in 2020. A freely- accessible experience is available virtually too – you will find it by clicking theglassroom.org.

The latest edition of The Glass Room has been developed by Tactical Tech in collaboration with a number of European partners: IFLA, FERS, Save the Children Italia, Save the Children Romania, Malta Chamber of Scientists, Science Gallery Dublin and ADAPT, as well as being co-funded by the European Union. Mis-, dis- and malinformation, the acceleration of fake news and how it spreads, and technological dependency are some of the topics covered. The Digital Detox Kit a beneficial guide to help you get control of your tech is another component.

Tactical Tech is a Berlin-based, international NGO that explores and mitigates the impact of digital technologies on society. Their mission is to give people the resources they need to make sustainable change in their digital lives, encouraging online privacy, autonomy, and a creative use of technology. Tactical Tech launched The Glass Room project in 2016 to address a growing public awareness around data and privacy, subsequently reaching over 270,000 people in 54 countries and generating a global conversation about the impact of big data.
