DCU Computing Webinar - Which course is right for you?

Students from across Ireland joined us on Wednesday, May 27th for our live DCU Computing Webinar, an interactive session designed to help prospective students explore their options, compare our three Computing degrees, and get a real sense of what it’s like to study Computing at DCU.

If you missed the event, or want to revisit any part of it, you can now watch the full recording here.

During the session, attendees heard directly from academic Dr Michael Scriney and current student Shane Whelan, as they shared their experiences across software development, data science, cybersecurity, digital innovation, and the wide range of skills that employers value in today’s fast‑moving tech landscape.

The webinar covered:

  • An overview of DCU’s three Computing degrees: what each programme offers, who it suits, and the kinds of careers graduates pursue.
  • Insights from our academic team on hands‑on learning, project‑based teaching, and how DCU prepares students for real‑world problem‑solving.
  • A current student, Shane Whelan, discussing his final-year project, favourite modules and advice for incoming first‑years.
  • A look at emerging areas in tech including AI, data analytics, secure systems, and digital transformation.
  • Guidance on choosing the right Computing degree based on your interests, strengths, and long‑term goals.

Whether you’re passionate about coding, curious about data, or excited by the idea of designing secure digital systems, DCU’s School of Computing offers a supportive, industry‑connected environment where you can build the skills to thrive in Ireland’s most dynamic sector.
