3. Three computing pathways

At DCU, you can choose from three distinct computing degrees:

• DC121 Computer Science: If you’re excited by the idea of building the next generation of technology, this degree is for you. You’ll develop a strong foundation in programming, algorithms, systems design and AI, and gain the skills to create secure, scalable applications that make a real difference in the world.

• DC123 Data Science with AI: If you’re passionate about using data and AI to solve real-world challenges, this course empowers you to turn information into meaningful insights. You’ll learn to collect and analyse large datasets, build AI models that drive innovation, and develop practical skills in programming, statistics and databases. 

• DC120 Computing for Business: If you see yourself at the intersection of technology and business, this degree is your opportunity to lead digital transformation. You’ll build expertise in software development, data analysis, and product innovation, equipping you to drive change and add value in any organisation.

4. It’s a hands‑on, practical degree

At DCU, you’ll learn by doing from day one. You’ll spend time in labs designing software, analysing data, building real applications, and working with the latest industry tools. This hands-on approach means you’ll develop practical skills that employers value, setting you up for success from the very start.

You’ll develop skills in areas such as programming, software development, data analysis, machine learning, cybersecurity and user‑centred design. These skills are in high demand across Ireland’s thriving tech sector. With DCU’s practical, real-world approach, you’ll graduate with the confidence and experience to step straight into your chosen career.

5. Real-world industry experience that sets you apart

In your third year, you’ll take part in a paid, accredited work placement with some of Ireland’s top tech and business companies. You’ll gain real-world experience in areas such as software, data, cybersecurity, and digital innovation, and build valuable industry connections. Many students even secure graduate roles with their placement company after finishing their degree. Our students regularly complete placements with top companies, including IBM, Microsoft, Accenture, Meta, and Deloitte, as well as leading Irish start‑ups.
