My undergraduate degree was in Physics and my PhD was in Image Processing. I did postdoctoral work in statistical computer vision and pattern recognition. I did research for Hitachi on Sign Language Recognition using real-time computer vision. I joined DCU as a lecturer in 1996 and have continued to work on Sign Language and human motion recognition. I have supervised eight PhDs in the area. I have also supervised PhDs on 3D object retrieval, autonomous vehicle control and an interactive system for public speaking.
