Academic biography

Dr. Liang Charlie Xu is an Assistant Professor in the School of Computing at Dublin City University. He received his PhD in Computer Applications from Dublin City University and his MSc in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Essex.

He coordinates and teaches modules aligned with DCU Futures and the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU), including Introduction to Programming and Exploring Innovative & Disruptive Technologies. His teaching practice emphasises Challenge-Based Learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and authentic assessment, including Interactive Oral Assessment.

His research explores how immersive and intelligent technologies can enhance learning, engagement, and accessibility. His research interests include Immersive Technologies (Virtual Reality and Games), Natural Language Processing, Computer-Assisted Language Learning, AI in Education and EdTech.
