Academic biography

Tracey's background is in interactive media and computer science and her research is centred on Human Computer Interaction (HCI). Her main focus is on the improvement of user interaction, user experience and accessibility in smart systems. She is particularly interested in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for adaptive and personalised user and education-based systems, AIEd frameworks, biometric-based user behaviour analysis, AI-based user modelling and Affective Computing.
Tracey has worked across a number of European, SFI and Enterprise Ireland funded projects in the areas of accessibility, digital retail, intelligent education systems, eHealth, smart buildings and accessible systems, most recently acting as DCU Principal Investigator on the EU Erasmus Plus, Inclusive Method based on the Perception of Accessibility and Compliance Testing project. Through her research, she has collaborated with leading Irish and European based academics, industry partners and research centres including IVI, ASSERT, Lero, the Insight SFI Centre for Data Analytics and the Adapt Centre.
Tracey has authored a number of academic articles, journal papers and book chapters outlining her research.
Tracey is a member of SIGCHI Ireland, ILTA (Irish Learning and Technology Association), IITD (Irish Institute of Training and Development), Lero, Insight, Adapt and the Interaction Design, E-learning and Speech (IDEAS) Research Group University College Cork. Tracey is also an associate member of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI).
Tracey holds a PhD in Computer Science (2013) and an MSc in Multimedia Technology, both from University College Cork. In 2008 she was awarded the IRCSET William Burgess Bursary (supported by the Digital Hub in Collaboration with Irish Research Council) in support of her PhD research.
