Centre visit to Le Groupe Ouest
This November, Professor Vlad Glǎveanu and Natalie Robinson from the DCU Centre for Possibility Studies visited Antoine Le Bos, Aurelie Valet and colleagues at Le Groupe Ouest in Brittany, France.
Le Groupe Ouest is self-described as a 'place for story development in Europe.' Their StoryTANK project offers a think tank for researchers and screenwriters to come together to imagine, ideate and theorise.
The vision for StoryTANK comes from a firm belief in the power of narratives, both for and beyond creative scriptwriting endeavours:
The manufacturing of narrative addresses fundamental issues, not only of an artistic nature, but also anthropological, societal, political and prospective. The function of narratives is to bring communities together through shared visions, emotions or constructions of the imagination.
During our visit, we learned a great deal about the spatial, sensory and embodied approach to generating and playing with ideas. We were able to offer the Possibility Studies perspective, with Vlad sharing his academic expertise on creativity and possibility in a video interview. Over the same weekend, Professor Michael Hanchett Hanson from Teachers College, Columbia University, offered his own expertise around creativity and power; both videos will be available in the future on StoryTANK's You Tube channel.
You will be able to read a creative, more in-depth piece on our trip in the Winter edition of the Possibility Studies Network Magazine, P², in the New Year.
