AI and Contemporary Music Creation

This project investigates how artificial intelligence (AI) affects the processes and possibilities of musical creation by examining record labels as mediators between human creativity, technological systems, and institutional practices. Drawing on Glăveanu’s Theory of the Possible, the study explores the relationships among artists, AI tools, and institutional workflows across three dimensions: (1) creative production, (2) market analysis and promotion, and (3) future planning.
By applying the Theory of the Possible to the contemporary music industry, the project seeks to understand how AI expands or reconfigures the field of what can be imagined and realised in musical creation. It also introduces the notion of the institutionalized unpossible, referring to creative possibilities excluded by institutional routines and algorithmic standardization.
