British Council Visit Rutland Street NS and Faughart CNS
DCU IoE hosted a week-long visit on the 17th November 2025, from the British Council with a delegation from Wales. During this week, the Welsh delegates were given the opportunity to visit two of our Changemaker Schools in the network.
On Monday, 17th November, Rutland Street NS hosted the guests and gave great insights into literacy in Irish schools. We were given the opportunity to hear about the history of the school and see practices such as their nurture room, UFLI and Talk Time taking place in classrooms. It was a hands-on visit to the school and really enjoyable to get the opportunity to see these practices and talk with the teachers and children.

On Wednesday, 19th November, Faughart CNS welcomed the visitors for an exciting day of activities. During the visit, Faughart CNS shared their practices in Word Study, creative writing, station teaching and the use of technology to support literacy. We were lucky to be given the opportunity to visit classrooms, meet the staff and children, and engage in rich discussions. Faughart CNS also shared insights into their approaches to supporting children with literacy challenges and their peer reading pilot programme.
British Council delegates visiting Faughart CNS
It was such a successful week and a great opportunity to engage with teachers and council members from Wales and to discuss and swap best practices. We would like to extend our thanks to the visitors from the British Council. Also we would like to thank Rutland Street and Faughart CSN for inviting us into their schools and organising such fantastic visits - a lot of time and effort went into planning the days!
