Advancing Multilingual Awareness and Inclusion through Community and School Engagement

Dr Inmaculada Gómez Soler’s external engagement work demonstrates a sustained commitment to translating research on multilingualism into meaningful impact beyond the university. Through initiatives such as #ThinkLanguages Week, she creates inclusive, hands-on opportunities for post-primary students to experience languages and cultures in a university setting, fostering enthusiasm for language learning and widening participation in higher education.

At the same time, her collaboration with the non-profit organisation Mother Tongues extends this engagement into community spaces, where she works with educators and families to raise awareness of the cognitive, educational, and social benefits of bilingualism. Together, these initiatives illustrate an integrated approach to engagement that connects research, teaching, and service, strengthening links between DCU, schools, and communities while contributing to a more linguistically aware and inclusive Ireland.
