The DCU Conflict Institute and the Research Center in Political Science (CICP-UMinho) invite the academic community to participate in the workshop “The EU learning process during the COVID-19 Pandemic”.

Event details:

Date: 11th and 12th of May 2026.

Place: School of Economics, Management and Political Science | University of Minho | Braga | Portugal

The present workshop relies on a multidisciplinary approach to discuss the EU's learning process in the health domain during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Experts from various fields, such as law, sociology, health sciences, and politics, are invited to evaluate how the Union has been learning, adapting, and integrating practices to enhance its preparedness for future crises. To that end, there will be individual presentations, debates and group work, all guided by guest speakers (to be announced soon).

All interested parties must submit their papers (title, 300-word abstract, and 4 keywords) along with their name and affiliation via Google Forms by the 6th of March 2026. Topics covered in the workshop include, but are not limited to:

  • EU Institutional changes in the health domain after COVID-19.
  • The Impact of COVID-19 on Migrants' Access to Healthcare in the European Union.
  • How desinformation has been addressed by the Union in health policies.
  • The convergence of digital and health regarding the treatment of EU patients' data.
  • Demographic challenges and their impact on EU health.
  • The role of the EU as a global health security actor.

All details are available in the Call for Papers.
