Happy Community Course Participants!
As the 2025/2026 academic calendar drew to a close, DCU in the Community celebrated the completion of a number of community courses.
'Lectures in Your Library', a 12-week course delivered in partnership with Dublin northwest Partnership and Ballymun, Finglas and Cabra Libraries, came to a close on the 27th of May. 20 students from a across the North Dublin area enjoyed lectures in three seperate subject areas; The History of Witchhunting, Psychology and Political Theory. Lecturers come from across DCU; the School of history & Geography, the School of Psychology and the School Law & Government. It is a fantastic opportunity for DCU's academics and the loca community to meet, share ideas and discuss world events. As well as being a brilliant learning environement, students enjoyed making new friendships in the area.
'Power & Politics of History', a free 6-week course took place on DCU Glasnevin campus. 25 students finished the course, covering historical subject areas from the former yugoslavia and the holocause to the present day and how we remember history. It was a heavily discussion-based class, with students given the opportunity to learn and debate with one another.
Acrylic Painting Workshops, a recurring fixture in DCU in the Community's calendar. DCU in the Community offers free painting workshops in the community, with workshops taking place in Ballymun Library. Our tutor, Aya, guides students of various levels to paint beautiful scenes of hills and mountains, as well as intricate scenes of birds or colourful objects. Students are also welcome to paint on campus, as well as jars, vases and tote bags. All materials are provided by DCU in the Community. roughly 20 attend each class, on a saturday morning, and enjoy learning something new, honing their craft, and socialsiing with likeminded people. It is a welcome setting for all.
