What role can embodied responses and creative experimentation play in addressing urgent environmental and social challenges of our time?

Dublin City University's Institute of Climate and Society is inviting applications for two paid EMERGENCE residencies in a well-equipped studio space. This opportunity is geared towards professional dance artists who are based in Ireland and develop work around ecology, environmental justice, and/or climate change through their movement practice.

The residency creates space for two dance artists to immerse themselves in their practice, follow lines of inquiry, undertake artistic research, and/or develop new work, with no expectation to present outcomes at the end of the residency.

Applications from historically marginalized communities including (but not limited to) Black, LGBTQ+, Disabled, and/or rural artists are especially encouraged to apply.

RESIDENCIES OFFER:

A studio space in-kind at DCU's Glasnevin or St. Patrick's Campus on a one week basis, Monday – Friday (10am - 5pm). Week 1 option: 31st Aug - 4th Sep, 2026 OR Week 2 option: 7th Dec - 11th Dec, 2026.
One €850 participation fee and an additional access budget to support any requirements (to be agreed)
Potential opportunities to connect with researchers at the Institute of Climate and Society
A letter of support (if requested) to secure additional opportunities related to the residency

ADDITIONAL SUPPORT:

To encourage participation from across Ireland, one selected artist residing outside the Dublin commuter region will receive:

One accommodation stipend of €630
Reimbursement for roundtrip slow travel (public trains, buses, etc) where possible
Per diems for 5 days at €30/day

ELIGIBILITY:

To apply artists must:

Reside on the island of Ireland
Be age 18+ (Artists of all stages and ages are welcome to apply)
Commit to using the residency week to develop their dance practice around ecology, environmental justice, and/or climate change

The deadline for submissions is Friday, July 3rd at 5:00PM. All applicants will be notified of the outcome by Friday July 10th.
