Professor Eileen Barker, Emeritus
Professor of Sociology at London School of Economics (LSE),
delivered an intriguing and thought-provoking lecture at DCU
Business School yesterday evening.
The public lecture, presented by The Friends of the London School of
Economics in Ireland and DCU Business School, addressed the question
'Evil Cults and/or New Religious Movements?' Professor Barker's
up-to-date appraisal drew a large audience of staff, students and
friends of DCU and LSE.
Professor Eileen Barker OBE FBA is Professor Emeritus of Sociology
with Special Reference to the Study of Religion at London School of
Economics. She has over 250 publications, translated into 27
languages. These include the award-winning The Making of a
Moonie: Brainwashing or Choice? and New Religious Movements:
A Practical Introduction, which has been published in eight
languages.
