DCU Dóchas Éireann GAA to Host All Four Major Championship Finals
2026 is set to be a busy year for DCU Dóchas Éireann GAA Club, as the club embarks on hosting all four of the major Championship finals. This is sure to lead to a festival of Gaelic Games activity on campus and nearby in the opening quarter of 2026.
It is a huge privilege to host the competitions and we look forward to working with stakeholders across DCU, the third level committees and Croke Park.
DCU has a history of hosting weekends, the most recent hosting was the 2022 O’Connor weekend, while we hosted the Féile CA encompassing the Sigerson & Fitzgibbon Cup finals in 2020, while prior to that we hosted the centenary Ashbourne Cup in 2015. DCU Dóchas Éireann will be hoping to retain flagship competitions, the Sigerson Cup, which was won in Bekan, Co. Mayo in February 2025 and the O’Connor Cup which was captured in Queens University Belfast in March 2025.
The Ashbourne Camogie side will be looking to add to their maiden title from 2022, as they start their campaign off against MIC Limerick in early January. While on the hurling side our Fitzgibbon Cup side will be hoping to go one step further than 2018 and 2025, losing to UL in both finals, as they attempt to capture the Fitzgibbon Cup for the first time.
We will also be hoping that history repeats itself and we can follow up our successes of 2020 and 2006, when we previously hosted Sigerson finals, by capturing the title again on February 11th 2026. There is a lot of football to be played prior to that, as a stacked competitions means many colleges will feel they can land the Sigerson Cup.
The draws for the LGFA competitions took place in DCU sports grounds on Wednesday December 10th, with seven of our captains on hand to conduct the draw.
The Ashbourne weekend is the first weekend where finals will take place on February 7th & 8th, before a festival week of men’s football and hurling the following week, with the Sigerson Final on Wednesday 11th and Fitzgibbon Final on Friday 13th, before the culmination of other finals that weekend. Then following a break, the O’Connor weekend will be March 13th & 14th.
The opening fixtures for our four senior teams are
Sigerson Cup v Ulster University in Jordanstown on Tuesday January 6th @ 19:30
