DCU Ladies Clinch First Lydon Cup in 26 Years
Dublin City University is celebrating a landmark achievement after the DCU ladies soccer team captured the 2026 Lydon Cup, their first title in the competition since the year 2000. The long‑awaited triumph marks a defining moment for the program, which has steadily rebuilt its competitive edge within Irish university sport. The match was played in Athlone where DCU faced a strong UCD side, winning 2-1. The goal scorers were Lara Phipps and Emily Corbet, Captained by Melissa O’Kane.
The victory also highlights the growing strength of women’s sport at DCU. In recent seasons, the university has earned recognition for its success in Gaelic football, including O’Connor and Giles Cup campaigns, and has invested heavily in facilities and coaching to support female athletes.
