Emma Moore’s World Indoors Debut
DCU Sport scholar and Irish middle-distance runner Emma Moore delivered a poised and promising performance at the 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Toruń, marking a major milestone in her rapid rise through the senior ranks. Her appearance in the women’s 800m heats capped off a breakthrough indoor season that has firmly established her as one of Ireland’s most exciting young talents.
The 21‑year‑old Galway City Harriers athlete and DCU student, entered the championships on the back of a superb indoor campaign. In January, she ran 2:01.21, breaking the Irish U23 indoor 800m record at the time and securing her World Indoors qualification via the World Athletics rankings system.
A central force behind Moore’s rapid rise is her coach, Joe Ryan, who also serves as Head of Athletics at Dublin City University. Under his guidance, Moore has thrived in DCU’s performance environment, and their partnership is quickly emerging as one of the most promising in Irish athletics.
At the World Indoor Championships, Moore competed in the women’s 800m heats, finishing 5th in her race. A strong showing for her senior debut on the global stage which was in the fastest heat of the day.
While it wasn’t enough to advance to the final, her run demonstrated composure and the competitive edge she has developed through a season of consistent racing.
