Jack Carney Leads Strong DCU Presence in 2026 All-Star Nominations
The last few weeks has seen a big collective of DCU students and Alumni recognised for their performance with their counties across the summer of 2026.
The stand out nomination comes on the men's football side, following Mayo's historic triumph in Croke Park in July. Jack Carney (Mayo) has been deservedly recognised for his performance in the middle of the field and his two-point shooting with a nomination for Footballer of the Year. Jack has also been nominated in midfield, alongside his Mayo county man Enda Hession. They are joined on the list of nominations by Craig Lennon (Louth), Ciarán Kilkenny (Dublin), Diarmuid Murtagh (Roscommon), Robert Finnerty (Galway), who are all DCU Alumni. While current DCU Student & Sigerson Footballer, Sam McCartan from Westmeath has also been acknowledged for his performances in Westmeath's first Leinster title in over twenty years.
On the camogie side, Kilkenny trio Aoife Norris, Niamh Deely and Laura Greene are rightly nominated as Kilkenny reached the semi final stage of the Championship.
On the Ladies Football side, Niamh Crowley (Dublin) and Laoise Lenehan (Kildare). While Niamh Hetherton (Dublin) & Niamh Gallogly (Meath) were nominated in midfield, while Aoife Rarrigan (Kildare) was nominated in attack.
In Hurling, the Dublin duo of Paddy Smyth and Donál Burke have been recognised for their contribution to Dublin reaching a Leinster final and All Ireland quarter final.
