Book Launch: Rule of Law Crises in the EU with ECJ Judge Ramona Frendo
On 27 April 2026, the Dublin European Law Institute will host an online book launch featuring a keynote address by Judge Ramona Frendo of the Court of Justice of the European Union.
Time: 12:00 CET (11:00 – 12:00 Dublin Time)
In her keynote address, Judge Frendo will reflect on the rule of law jurisprudence of the Court of Justice of the European Union in light of Dr Niels Kirst’s new book, Dealing with the Rule of Law Crisis in the European Union: Challenges from a Comparative Federalism Perspective, published by Hart Publishing.
The book offers an original lens on one of the European Union’s most pressing challenges: the erosion of the rule of law in EU Member States. It examines the judicial, institutional, and financial responses developed by the EU, and compares these with the constitutional history of the United States in order to identify common patterns, divergent strategies, and broader lessons on how the rule of law can be safeguarded in federal legal systems. In doing so, it provides valuable insights for legal scholars, policymakers, and practitioners working to address the rule of law crisis and uphold democratic values within the EU at a time when the rule of law is under pressure worldwide.
This webinar will provide an opportunity to engage with these themes through the perspective of one of Europe’s leading judges, and to reflect on the wider legal and constitutional implications of the rule of law crisis in the European Union.
