The Future of the ECHR - Preliminary reflections on the Chişinău Declaration
On 14/15 May, Council of Europe Member States will meet in Chişinău (Republic of Moldova) during which a political declaration focussed on the European Convention on Human Rights will be adopted, with a special focus on migration-related issues. This follows a short, five-month period of closely-scrutinised deliberation amongst states which sought to establish a new understanding of how the integrity of the ECHR can be retained in light of migration-related challenges in various Member States.
AGORA, in partnership with the Dublin European Law Institute at Dublin City University (DCU) is delighted to host a webinar offering a first reaction and preliminary reflections on the relevance of the Declaration as well as its possible impact(s) in member states and on the Convention System more broadly. The central concern: does the Declaration enhance the integrity, resilience and prosperity of the European Convention on Human Rights system?
Speakers:
- Prof. Robert Spano, Partner at Gibson Dunn and former President of the European Court of Human Rights
- Prof Veronika Fikfak, University College London
The event will be moderated by Dr Andrew Forde, Dublin City University (DCU).
The event will be held online and open to all, and there will be an opportunity for comments and questions from the floor.
