DCU Summer Program for Autistic Students in July 2026

๐ŸŽ“ What is this program?
It is a three-day event designed to give autistic students an "introductory experience" of college life and make the transition to higher education feel less overwhelming.

๐Ÿค”The purpose of the program:

It aims to bridge the gap between secondary education and higher education by preparing you for the academic and practical aspects of university life. 

๐Ÿ‘ฅWho organises it

The Disability and Learning Support Service and the DCU Autism Friendly Project. Staff members from these services will work on it alongside neurodivergent student ambassadors. 

โœ… Who can attend?

  1. Current Students: You have completed your 5th or 6th year of secondary school.
  2. Young Adults: You are under 23 and considering going to college

  • The social side of college and academic life
  • What help and support is available for students
  • The physical layout of the campus
  • The lived Experience of college from autistic students and staff

     

Programme Highlights โœจ

 

Real University Experience ๐ŸŽ“

Try out a โ€œtasterโ€ lecture. Youโ€™ll sit in a real lecture setting, and see how teaching is delivered, all in a supportive environment where you can ask questions if you wish.

Campus Tours ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ

Get to know the campus with a guided tour that highlights the spaces that matter most to students. This includes teaching buildings, the library , accommodation , quiet spaces , the sensory pods, student support services, and social areas. You will learn how to navigate the campus and where to go for study, downtime, or support. 

Skill-Building Workshops ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

Sessions cover time management strategies, how to use university digital platforms , understanding academic expectations, and developing self-advocacy skills so you can confidently communicate your needs in a university setting.

Lived Experience ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

Hear directly from autistic students and staff members about their personal journeys through college. These discussions offer practical advice, and reassurance, helping you see whatโ€™s possible and learn strategies that have worked for others.

Dates: 7th, 8th and 9th of July 2026

Times: 10 am to 3.30 pm

Location: Dublin City University, Glasnevin Campus

Please complete the online application form available below. The first 30 applicants will be accommodated. The application form will be open till 31st May 2026. If you get a place, we will email you in the first two weeks of June.
