Introducing a Centralised Approach to Apple Mac Device Management

As part of Dublin City University’s (DCU) ongoing commitment to organisational resilience and readiness, Digital Technology Solutions (DTS) is introducing a centralised approach to managing all DCU-owned Mac devices. This initiative will simplify technical support, improve operational consistency, and bring Mac devices into direct alignment with how Windows devices are currently managed across the University.

Why this change is occurring?

DCU Managed Mac

Bringing DCU-owned Mac devices into the University’s managed environment ensures a consistent approach to support, policy compliance, and security standards.

It allows DTS to maintain and support devices proactively, protecting institutional data while systematically improving the day-to-day digital experience for staff.

Key benefits for Mac users

  • Simplified software access: Users can utilise a dedicated Self Service application to install approved, DCU-licensed software with a single click, eliminating the need to log a support ticket.
  • Pre-configured setup: Core University services, including email, Wi-Fi, VPN, and network printers, can be pre-configured to work seamlessly out of the box.
  • Efficient remote support: With explicit user consent, DTS Mac specialists can connect to devices remotely to diagnose and resolve technical issues quickly, reducing the need for on-campus visits.
  • Proactive maintenance: Enhanced infrastructure capabilities enable DTS to detect and address system issues early, minimising unexpected downtime and disruptions.
  • Enhanced security standards: Managed devices will receive automated operating system updates, antivirus protection, and secure VPN configurations to maintain compliance with DCU cybersecurity guidelines.

Key timelines

  • 31 August 2026: Target completion date for the full enrolment of all Mac devices utilising the DCU VPN.

Please ensure your Mac is managed by DCU and reach out to DTS for instructions on how to check if your device is secure. As per the DCU Information Security Policy, only managed devices can access the DCU network and services.
