Professor Mona O'Moore

Prof. Mona O'Moore Appointed Adjunct to School of Education Studies

Mona is a former Head of School of Education, Trinity College Dublin. Her research expertise is in the field of School & Adult Bullying, Aggression and Violence, Child & Educational Psychology. She was the founder and co-ordinator of the Anti-Bullying Research and Resource Centre (ABC) in Trinity College.

Mona is a former Head of School of Education, Trinity College Dublin. Her research expertise is in the field of School & Adult Bullying, Aggression and Violence, Child & Educational Psychology. She was the founder and co-ordinator of the Anti-Bullying Research and Resource Centre (ABC) in Trinity College. Mona was the Rapporteur of the first European seminar on school bullying, writing up the Report for the Council of Europe in 1987. Mona was a member of the Ministerial working party which drew up the National Guidelines in Countering Bullying in Primary and Post Primary Schools in Ireland in 1993. Since then she conducted the first Nationwide Study on School bullying and Workplace bullying in Ireland. She has been a member of 13 European research partnerships and is currently a member of the European V.I.S.T.A project aiming to provide training on school violence to policy makers and practitioners. She is regularly invited to contribute to seminars and conferences, in Ireland and abroad. She has published widely, in particular in the area of school bullying. She is co-author of : Dealing with Bullying In Schools: A Training Manual for Teachers, Parents and Other Professionals (Paul Chapman Publishing), Cyber-bullying: The Irish Experience (Nova Science Publishers), Inclusion or Illusion (Blackhall Publishing). More recently she has authored the book: Understanding School Bullying: A Guide for Parents and Teachers (Veritas). In addition she has been one of the authors of the recent Guidelines for Preventing Cyber-Bullying in the School Environment: A Review and Recommendations (COST IS 0801). In 2012, Mona invited Dr. James O’Higgins Norman to succeed her as Director of the Anti-Bullying Centre and the transition of the centre to the School of Education Studies at Dublin City University is underway.
