Dr. James O'Higgins Norman Awarded Scholarship by US State Department

Dr. James O'Higgins Norman is one of 10 researchers from Ireland to be chosen to participate in a programme on alternatives to political violence at the Irish Institute in Boston College. The programme is funded by the U.S. Congress through the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Cultural and Educational Affairs.

James Award

The Irish Institute was established after the Good Friday Agreement to promote the peace and normalization process on the island of Ireland and to contribute to social, political, and economic stability through cross-border and cross-community cooperation. Professional development programming by the Institute introduces Irish and Northern Irish participants to successful models of best practices in the U.S., as well as offering an opportunity for cultural exchange that promotes mutual understanding among the U.S., Ireland, and Northern Ireland.

Dr. O'Higgins Norman will follow a programme of research on alternatives to political violence in Massachusetts and Alabama in March 2012.
