The Centre for Engaged Research is delighted to welcome Deiric O'Broin and Paula Dolan as they take part in The Power of Collaboration webinar series. Their presentation, entitled 'Financing Social Enterprise in Ireland' will the social enterprise environment of Ireland the many barriers it faces financially. Deiric and Paula will be discussing their involvement in a European Commission (EASI) funded project where DCU was part of a consortium including Community Finance Ireland, Rethink Ireland and associate partner Irish Social Enterprise Network. The project was one of 14 European projects aimed at improving availability of finance for social enterprise. Throughout the project the consortium partners collaborated with the parallel projects in other member states. The project research also involved collaboration with several social enterprise network organisations. Throughout the project there was significant direct engagement with a broad range of social entrepreneurs and social enterprise organisations. The project involved multi-level collaboration.

 

Deiric Ó Broin is Professor of Public Policy Practice in the School of Law and Government in Dublin City University where he teaches Irish politics and public policy and is the Director of the MSc in Public Policy and MA in European Law and Policy programmes. His research specialism is public participation and deliberation in public policy formulation. His most recent research is on policy making in multi-level policy ecosystems with particular focus on policy making relating to the social economy. He is Chairperson of the Social Economy Research Network of Ireland and currently serves as a member of the Dublin Local Community Development Committee, the Local Economic and Community Plan Advisory Committees of Dublin City Council and Fingal County Council, and is Chairperson of the Google Employment Task Force/This City Works initiative.

 

Paula Dolan is a PhD candidate in the School of Law and Government, DCU. Paula is a barrister with over 30 years’ experience spanning strategic business consulting, legal research and legal practice. She holds bachelor and masters business studies degrees from TCD and UCD respectively and an LLM from DCU. Her current PhD research aims to build a legal, policy and regulatory framework to support Irish social enterprise organisations. The research is funded by the Irish Research Council and Enterprise Partner Dublin City Council.
