PWC Honours DCU Computing Students at Annual Student Academic Awards

PwC hosted their annual student academic awards  on Wednesday 28th March. This important event includes memorial awards and academic achievement prizes for both employees and external students. This year, for the first time, they also awarded two prizes to students from the MSc. in Computing from the School of Computing, DCU. The latter awards were given for the highest Practicum result in the MSc.  and the highest Practicum in Data Analytics.  John Segrave-Daly achieved the highest Practicum result prize for a research topic entitled:  “The Application of Machine Learning and Survival Analysis to Receipt of Palliative Care for Patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)”, supervised by  Prof. Alan Smeaton.The Data Analytics prize went to Ciaran Porter, whose research project was entitled: “Determining Optimal Business Location by using existing Customer Reviews”, supervised by Prof. Gareth Jones.

This ongoing relationship between the School of Computing, DCU and PwC, the largest professional services company in the country is both important and encouraging for all involved.
