ComputeTY Coding Camp at DCU Inspires Future Tech Talent

Last week, the School of Computing at DCU welcomed Transition Year students to our Glasnevin campus to participate in ComputeTY 2026, our annual coding camp. Now in its 21st year, ComputeTY has introduced more than 5,000 young people to computing and programming. This year, almost 70 students participated in the camp, engaging with technology and exploring new skills.

ComputeTY gives students hands-on coding experience, a taste of university life, and guidance as they consider a future in technology. As in previous years, the camp champions diversity in Ireland’s tech sector. In 2026, almost half of participants came from DCU Access-affiliated schools, reflecting our commitment to broadening participation in STEM and supporting students who are typically underrepresented in higher education.

During the week, students participated in interactive Python workshops and hands-on lab sessions, guided by DCU Computing students. They built skills in programming, problem-solving, and creativity. The camp finished with a celebration of their achievements, including awards for Python programming, Micro:bit programming, and engagement.

This year’s career talk featured speakers from Fidelity Investments Ireland, who have been valued supporters of ComputeTY. In 2026, Fidelity’s team, including Linda Devenney, Vice President, Data Architecture, and Associate Software Engineers Dzastina Laukaityte and Anisa Hoxha shared their perspectives on technology careers and the skills needed in the sector. Their continued involvement demonstrates the strong industry collaborations that enrich the ComputeTY experience.

As ComputeTY 2026 comes to a close, we celebrate another successful year of helping young people build technical skills and discover new possibilities in STEM. The programme highlights DCU’s ongoing commitment to nurturing Ireland’s future innovators.
