Dublin City University and Hangzhou Dianzi University Announce Landmark Joint International College in China

Commencement of new partnership marked by An Taoiseach Micheál Martin TD as part of his trade mission to China

Dublin City University (DCU) today announced the launch of the HDU-DCU International College of Electronic & Information Engineering (ICEIE), a transformative partnership with Hangzhou Dianzi University (HDU) in China. This International College will offer jointly-developed undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in cutting-edge fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Electronic Information Engineering, Integrated Circuit Design, and Integrated Circuit Engineering.This collaboration marks a historic milestone for  DCU, introducing its first undergraduate degree programmes delivered wholly in China. 

The Taoiseach Michael Martin officially launched the International College and unveiled the commemorative plaque, signalling the importance of this initiative to Irish-Chinese educational and economic relations.

Commenting, An Taoiseach Micheál Martin TD said: 

"The HDU-DCU International College of Electronic & Information Engineering (ICEIE) is a significant milestone for Irish higher education on the international stage. Through this partnership with Hangzhou Dianzi University, Dublin City University is demonstrating the global reach and impact of Irish universities. It demonstrates the central role Ireland is playing in shaping the talent pipeline for the global technology sector.”

Prof Daire Keogh, President of Dublin City University commented: 

“Dublin City University has a longstanding relationship with Hangzhou Dianzi University. The partnership was initiated in 2003 during the Irish President Mary McAleese’s visit to China and endorsed by Xi Jinping who visited DCU as Governor and Party Secretary of Zhejiang Province on his first visit to Ireland in the same year. On that visit he emphasised the importance of ‘strengthening cooperation in education and training’ between our two countries. The launch of the HDU-DCU International College of Electronic & Information Engineering (ICEIE) is an important step in advancing academic and research collaboration between Ireland and China - we are particularly pleased to make this announcement as HDU celebrates its seventieth anniversary this year.”

Prof. CHEN Jiming, President of Hangzhou Dianzi University said:

“Since the initial cooperation between Hangzhou Dianzi University and Dublin City University in 2003, the partnership of the two universities has enjoyed the consistent support and close attention of President Xi Jinping. Over the past two decades, we have continually deepened international engagement and maintained a close, productive bilateral relationship.

“The establishment of the HDU-DCU International College of Electronics and Information Engineering stands as a high recognition of our longstanding cooperation and opens a new chapter in our joint endeavors. We are deeply honored and inspired by this milestone.

“Guided by the vision of President Xi Jinping, HDU will leverage its distinctive strengths in electronics and information disciplines, concentrate on cutting-edge fields such as information technology and artificial intelligence, and nurture future leaders for the global electronics and Al industries - thereby contributing our expertise and energy to worldwide innovation in these sectors.

Dr Jennifer Bruton, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Computing at DCU, said:

By bringing DCU’s industry-aligned, research-informed education to Hangzhou, we are not only expanding our global reach but also creating a vibrant pipeline of talent that will drive innovation in the global tech landscape. The HDU-DCU International College stands as a testament to DCU’s commitment to providing transformative educational opportunities and fostering international research and academic collaboration.

爱尔兰总理米歇尔·马丁 (Micheál Martin TD)正式启动新合作关系以作为他贸易访华的一部分

都柏林城市大学 (DCU)今日宣布与中国杭州电子科技大学 (HDU) 建立变革性合作关系,成立杭州电子科技大学-都柏林城市大学国际电子与信息工程学院 (ICEIE)。该国际学院将提供联合开发的本科、研究生和博士课程,涵盖人工智能、电子信息工程、集成电路设计和集成电路工程等前沿领域。此次合作对都柏林城市大学而言具有里程碑式的意义,标志着其推出首批完全在中国授课的本科课程。
