DCU Centre for Research in Children’s and Young Adult Literature

Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (Centre for Research in Children’s and Young Adult Literature, School of English)

The DCU Centre for Research in Children’s and Young Adult Literature, School of English is delighted to be designated as a nominating body for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA).

The decision, which was made by the Swedish award jury at its meeting in December, means that the centre is eligible to nominate for the 2021 and all future awards.

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award was founded by the Swedish government in 2002 and is administered by the Swedish Arts Council. At SEK 5 million, it is the world's largest award for children's and young adult literature.

Speaking about the announcement, Dr Keith O’Sullivan, director of the centre, said, ‘This is a great opportunity for everyone interested in children’s and young adult literature at DCU to have a voice in recognising authors, illustrators, oral storytellers, and reading promoters of distinction — national and international’.

A nominating meeting will be called early in Semester 2 and is open to everyone with a teaching, research or purely personal interest in children’s and young adult literature.
