DCU students encouraged to sign up to MySkills platform

DCU has launched MySkills, a first-of-its-kind digital platform that empowers students to capture, evidence, and share transversal skills, such as leadership and critical thinking, directly with potential employers.

The first week of March marked MySkills Week at Dublin City University, celebrating the formal launch of the MySkills platform—the first digital tool of its kind in Ireland and internationally.

A First for Ireland and International Education

MySkills is a unique digital platform that enables you to capture and showcase your transversal skills. These essential competencies include:

  • Critical thinking
  • Communicative competence
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Creative thinking
  • Data literacy
  • Leadership

By synchronising with Loop, MySkills records your level of competence based on formal assessments within your academic programmes. It then allows you to generate a detailed, personalised, and customisable transversal skills report to share with potential employers.

Evidence-Based Recruitment

As employers move toward ‘skills-first’ recruitment, the ability to formally evidence your abilities provides a significant advantage in a competitive jobs market.

Transversal skills are vital for tackling complex problems, navigating uncertainty, and differentiating human intelligence from artificial intelligence. Developing and evidencing these skills is now central to the University’s approach to teaching and learning.

Availability and Scaling

Transversal skills are currently integrated into 26 undergraduate programmes at DCU, with plans to scale to 38 programmes from September 2026.

Recognising the value of reflective practice, MySkills also allows you to self-report on your skills, regardless of whether they are formally integrated into your specific programme yet. For this reason, MySkills is now available to all DCU students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The University formally launched the platform at an employer engagement event in the Spark on the Glasnevin campus, following a week of high-energy events across both the Glasnevin and St. Patrick’s campuses.

DCU Deputy President Professor Anne Sinnott said:

“I’m delighted that we can now make MySkills available to all DCU students. The platform offers unique benefits and exciting opportunities for both students and employers. It reinforces our uniqueness as a genuinely innovative university that is re-imagining education.”

Dr Ciarán Dunne, Transversal Skills Director at DCU, added:

“MySkills offers DCU students a unique and impactful way to identify, record, articulate and evidence their key transversal skills. By enabling our students to generate personalised and customisable skills reports that can be shared with employers, we are empowering our students, while also supporting employers to make better informed, evidence-based hiring decisions.”
