DCU researcher claims two awards at American Educational Research Association Conference

Hsiao-Ping received both the Best Paper Award and the Outstanding Reviewer Award at the AERA Conference.

Dr Hsiao-Ping Hsu, Assistant Professor in the School of STEM Education, Innovation and Global Studies at the DCU Institute of Education, has claimed two awards for his research into teaching practice and generative AI at the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Conference.

Hsiao-Ping received both the Best Paper Award and the Outstanding Reviewer Award at the American Educational Research Association Conference held in Los Angeles last week, which featured more than 2,500 sessions (papers, symposia, posters, roundtables, panels) with numerous papers presented by staff from the DCU Institute of Education.

Associate Dean for Research, Professor Martin Brown, said, ‘this is a phenomenal achievement by all accounts, and Hsiao-Ping is richly deserving of these accolades for his extraordinary work as part of the School of STEM Education, Innovation and Global Studies at DCU Institute of Education’

Commenting on receiving the two awards, Hsiao-Ping also said, '‘I am absolutely delighted to receive these two awards. They reflect the growing importance of supporting pre-service teachers in navigating generative AI in thoughtful, pedagogically informed, and ethically responsible ways’

Hsiao-Ping is a member of the Digital Learning team (primary education) and the Centre for the Advancement of STEM Teaching and Learning (CASTeL). He received his PhD in Learning Technologies from the University of Texas at Austin.

His research examines the educational applications of generative artificial intelligence, mixed reality, computational thinking, and digital literacy, with a particular focus on teacher education and technology integration.
