Frequently Asked Questions
We do not accept medical/ GP cards.
The Student Health Service is not a medical card practice. All medical cardholders are advised to register with a Dublin based GMS doctor.
A Medical Card entitles the holder to free consultation and in certain circumstances to free prescriptions and free hospitalisation.
There is a charge for attending Student Health Service which in DCU. You will need to pay for your care on the day of your visit to the Student Health Service.
Whether you can claim a reimbursement depends on the level of cover in your health insurance policy. You should check the details of your own policy to see what charges are covered, and submit a claim where applicable.
DCU Health Centre can provide a receipt for your visit upon request.
The DCU Student Health Centre does not provide assessments for ADHD, we can provide referrals to external services for these assessments.
Please note not all services require referrals, you can see a non exhaustive list of practitioners assessing for ADHD in the following link :https://adhdireland.ie/adhd-irelands-list-of-clinicians/adults-list-of-clinicians/
An important thing to note is the difference between psychiatrists and psychologists. Both can assess and diagnose ADHD but only psychiatrists can prescribe medications to treat / manage its symptoms. Many psychiatrists won't accept diagnosis + assessments that have been carried out by psychologists. Psychologist assessments tend to be cheaper those done by psychiatrists but they are purely for diagnosis.
The DCU health centre can provide a driving medical.
However, a GP driving medical is not always necessary unless you have a listed medical condition. You can find this information here: https://www.ndls.ie/how-to-apply/forms-reports.html
