Preparing for College

Preparing for College

There is a lot to consider when preparing for University.

Here are some helpful pointers to facilitate you in regards to health:

Vaccinations to consider

One way to help prevent illness is vaccination. Students are recommended to be vaccinated against Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) and Meningococcal C (MenC) which causes meningitis and septicaemia.

Commonly these vaccines are given throughout your childhood. If you are unvaccinated, we recommend that you get vaccinated.

  • MenC vaccines can be given to people up to 23 years old
  • MMR vaccine can be given to anyone born after 1978 – You will need 2 doses to ensure protection.

Please arrange vaccination with your local GP or alternatively see a list of GPs close to DCU.

(Please note an administration fee may be charged)

How to get prescriptions renewed at the student health centre

If you take regular medications, inhalers or injections you may require a prescription renewal during the academic year. When requesting a prescription renewal, please bring a letter from your consultant or your GP with details of your illness.

**Doctors in our health centre may not be able to renew your prescription without this information**
