Seminar title: Empowering through upskilling? Evaluation of a policy response to globalisation

Seminar Series: Higher education in challenging times: questioning the unquestioned

Host: Higher Education Research Centre (HERC) Dublin City University.

Tuesday 9 December, 14.00-16.00

Venue: DCU Business School Building: Level 3

This event will bring together experienced researchers and senior practitioners from the policy community with a shared interest in understanding the complexities arising from a policy focus on what has been termed the 'supply-push' effect- whereby employers are encouraged to shift towards higher skill, higher value added product market strategies with the objective of creating stronger long term demand for skills within the economy.

The keynote speaker will be Professor Ewart Keep, Director of the Centre on Skills, Knowledge and Organisational Performance (SKOPE) Oxford University (bio note and abstract below)

Other contributors will include:

Dr Bryan Fields, Director, Curriculum Development/Programme Innovation, SOLAS

Dr. Claire Gubbins, Senior Lecturer in HRM & Organisational Behaviour, DCU Business School

Dr Kara McGann, Policy Executive, IBEC

Professor Philip O'Connell, Director, Geary Institute, UCD.
