Launch of Meath: The Irish Revolution, 1912–23

The School of History & Geography is delighted to announce the publication of Meath: The Irish Revolution, 1912–23 by Ciarán Wallace, the latest title in the Irish Revolution, 1912–23 series, co-edited by our colleague Dr Daithí Ó Corráin and Professor Marian Lyons.

The book is published by Four Courts Press and explores how the revolutionary decade shaped life in County Meath. While the county was not a centre of major battles, its people were profoundly affected by events such as conscription fears, ambushes, reprisals, and violence in Ashbourne and Trim. The study also highlights political mobilisation, agrarian tensions, and the roles and opportunities that emerged for women during the period.

Drawing on local newspapers and newly available archives, the book places ordinary people at the centre of the research, showing how events unsettled daily life in Meath.
