Academic biography

Dr. Fabrizio Leonardo Cuccu is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Diaspora Geography at the School of History and Geography, where he works on the project Diaspora Diplomacy and the Migration-Development Nexus. He has previously been a Research Fellow at the Merian Centre for Advanced Studies in the Maghreb (MECAM), University of Tunis, as well as an Assistant Professor and Research Assistant at the School of Law and Government, DCU. His research explores the intersections of security, development, and migration policies in postcolonial settings. He has published in the Cambridge Review of International Affairs, L’Année du Maghreb, and Surveillance & Society. His first monograph, Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism in a Postcolonial Context: Security, Democracy, and Religion in Tunisia, was published with Routledge in August 2025.
