Details of the original CfP:

NOMADS (Network of Migration and Diversity Studies) is a recently established interdisciplinary research network aiming to connect practitioners and researchers at all levels, working on topics relating to migration. SALIS, DCU is hosting their first colloquium on the following theme:

"Hospitality: Aspirations and challenges"

Hospitality, as a principle, as well as an act, has cultural and political resonance since the foundation of our societies to contemporary times. Current perceived issues about migration include the reception of newcomers and their integration into their host societies. This colloquium will explore the reciprocal relationship between hosts and guests in the migration context, following in the footsteps of French philosopher Derrida, whose concept of hospitality can be interpreted in its broadest sense. Contributors are encouraged to reflect also on otherness and counter-narratives to xenophobic portrayals of ‘the migrant’ which are on the rise in Europe.

We are now inviting proposals for papers (either 10 or 20 minutes long). We welcome contributions from NGOs and practitioners as well as presentations with creative outputs. Topics could include but are not limited to:

  • Government policy
  • Reception strategies
  • Education
  • Health
  • Arts/Literature-based reflections and responses
  • Sexuality Studies
