Doctoral Studies Information Evening

Welcome to DCU Institute of Education’s Doctoral Studies Information Evening, which takes place on Wednesday 25th April 2018, 4pm to 8.30pm. The DCU Institute of Education, located at DCU St Pat’s Campus in Drumcondra, represents the largest body of expertise in education in Ireland, with over 140 academics lecturing and researching in education and related disciplines. The Institute has a dynamic research environment with a progressive shared research culture and ambitious strategy that aligns with DCU’s Strategic Plan (2017-2022) to foster talent, promote discovery, creativity and innovation, and transform lives and societies. This event is aimed at those interested in undertaking Doctoral or Masters by Research Studies in 2018-2019 in the DCU Institute of Education. There will be opportunities to discuss research ideas with academic staff and to find out more general information on the application process for research studies. We are delighted to introduce our Keynote Speaker Professor Martin Mills from University College London. Prof. Mills will present his presentation from 6.30-7.30pm: ‘Educational research making a difference: Be realistic, demand the impossible!’

Profile of Keynote Speaker

Professor Martin MillsMartin Mills is Professor and the inaugural Director of the Teachers and Teaching Research Centre, Institute of Education, University College London. He is the former Head of the School of Education, at the University of Queensland. Martin is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia and the immediate Past President of the Australian Association for Research in Education (AARE). His research interests include the sociology of education, social justice in education, alternative schooling, gender and education, school reform and new pedagogies. His recent co-authored books include: The Politics of Differentiation in Schools,  Reimagining schooling for education and Re-engaging young people in education: learning from alternative schools.
