100 Years of the Leaving Certificate: Past Insights, Future Directions
Join us, the Centre for Assessment Research Policy and Practice (CARPE), at DCU St. Patrick’s Campus for a special event marking 100 years of the Leaving Certificate. Together, we’ll explore the history and impact of this cornerstone of Irish education and consider what the next century might hold.
Keynote speakers include Professor Jo-Anne Baird, Director of the University of Oxford’s Centre for Educational Assessment (OUCEA), offering an international perspective, and Andrea Feeney, CEO of the State Examinations Commission (SEC), providing insights from those at the heart of the system.
Following the keynote addresses, CARPE-curated parallel sessions will then explore a range of topics, including:
-
100 Years of the Leaving Certificate – What Have We Learned?
-
Does It Have to Be This Way? Alternative Approaches and Options
-
Voices from the Classroom: Student, Teacher, and Principal Perspectives
The day will conclude with a panel discussion on the past, present and future of the Leaving Certificate, bringing together reflections and ideas from across the education community.
A full breakdown of speakers and sessions will be available in the coming days. Please share this among your networks.
